PORT STANLEY -- There was no smile on Rich McClenaghan's face when he came off the first green last Wednesday.
Opening up with a bogey five isn't the way the five-time club champion wants to start any round at his home layout, Kettle Creek Golf and Country Club.
But after a par in the second hole, he reeled off three straight birdies to set himself on the path to a golfing milestone.
McClenghan, 64, shot his age.

2010 Golf Day at Moortown Golf Club
Congratulations to Max Winterburn from Pannal Golf Club who won our end of season golf day at Moortown Golf Club on Friday 29th October.
Five-handicapper Max from Pannal Golf Club fired a fabulous gross 76 for a nett 71 to win by one stroke from Knaresborough's Andrew Yarrow (8 hcp). Richard Peer took third spot with a 73 but only after a back six countback.
Max's round was not only the best nett score on the day but also the best gross tally, however, because competitors can only win one prize the gross award went to Louis Tomlinson, a two-handicapper from Haydock Park Golf Club, who posted a 77.
Winterburn raced to the turn in 37 (one over par) thanks to birdies at the first, fifth and seventh. His only blemishes coming at the third and eighth, where he made bogeys, and a double at the sixth. On the back-nine he produced some solid golf with five par and fours bogeys.
Competitors complimented the warm welcome they received at Moortown from all the club staff and praised the 1929 Ryder Cup course for the test of golf it provided. Glowing references were paid to the trueness of the greens and the fair but tough playability of the course. Everybody to a man said that they were already looking forward to coming back and playing the Open Qualifying venue again.
Vouchers will be posted out to the winners.
Max is the Grandson of Jeannie and Ed Larrabee
